This heart-warming event will gather community members for the third consecutive year to celebrate the lives of those affected by breast cancer and to raise breast cancer awareness, increase breast health education, and generate funding for critical breast health programs. The free, family-friendly event welcomes children, families, and community members of all ages to participate in a host of fun activities, entertainment, and programs. Highlights of the Flames of Hope… A Celebration of Life at Waterfire event include:
Flames of Hope Torch Ceremony will begin at 6 p.m. at the Statehouse and will celebrate the memory of breast cancer victims and lives of breast cancer survivors with a procession of torch carriers. First the carriers, who are breast cancer survivors and family members of victims, will create the shape of a breast cancer ribbon before marching in procession through downtown Providence and into Waterplace Park where waterfire will be lit.
Lighting of the Rhode Island State House in Pink will occur directly after the torch ceremony, at 6:10 p.m., and will celebrate breast cancer awareness when the Statehouse is illuminated in pink lights while Kelly Lennon debuts two Gloria Gemma Breast Cancer Resource Foundation songs, “Hope is Alive” and “Just Beyond Our Reach.”
Flames of Hope Village will open at 6 p.m. and include live entertainment by headlining band Brass Attack, live radio broadcasts, silent auctions, educational booths, shopping, a food court, raffles, and more.
Flames of Hope Wine Tasting and Art Gala will commence at 6 p.m. and feature wines from around the world. Also featured will be an art gallery hosted by world renowned photographer and artist, Berge Zobian. This event requires a paid admission of $30.
Flames of Hope VIP Tent Party will begin at 6 p.m. and offer food tastings from three of the area’s finest caterers, signature pink ribbon cake, as well as live entertainment. This event requires a paid admission of $60 and includes admission to the Flames of Hope Wine Tasting and Art Gala.
In addition to these events, there will be multiple programs and entertainment throughout the day, including a Kids & Family Block Party at noon that will have games, prizes, and music; a Survivor Recognition Program at 7:45 p.m. that includes Mastery Martial Arts and a board breaking ceremony; as well as the Candles of Hope Program at 9:15 p.m. where an enlightening celebration of hope abounds in a glow of pink light along the riverfront.
