Oct. 1, 2008 - PRLog -- It was still the heat of summer when the Southern Ocean County Chamber of Commerce appealed to its members to think fall and take advantage of the large crowds during the award winning Chowderfest Weekend held October 4 and 5, 2008. Over 40 scarecrows have joined the ranks of a region wide friendly reminder to visitors that the upcoming months are bursting at the seams with culture, tournaments and family events that run through the end of the year.

Along with the scarecrow, each business and non profit organization submitted seasonal specials to be placed on the Southern Ocean County Chamber of Commerce website under their Scarecrow Sighting listing, a flyer has also been created that features the scarecrow addresses and a highlighted calendar of events for distribution during Chowderfest as well as all season long at the Chamber’s visitor center 265 West Ninth Street , Ship Bottom, NJ.  The visitor center also is home to the Scarecrow Central Sighting Board where all scarecrows and their locations are displayed prominently in the lobby.
Some of the season inspired events taking place within the region include, 150th Anniversary of the Lighting of Barnegat Lighthouse, 54th Annual LBI Fishing Tournament, Barnegat's Creep Street Hayride, Haunted Tuckerton Seaport, and Surflight’s production of White Christmas.

Even after Chowderfest these scarecrows will still have a lot of life in them, while judging is being done by Barbara Steele, Ocean County Director of Public Affairs on October 9, photographs of each entrant will be taken and then posted on the Chamber’s new destination website due to launch late fall 2008 as part of the fall photo tour.
