“Listen, if her marriage is solid it’ll hold out. If not, I’m doing little Miss Mariah a favor. This way she won’t have her hopes up. Look at that man. Do you honestly think that he can be faithful to her?” Eva arched her brow and looked from one to the other.

“Honey, leave your history out of this. She may or may not have found a good one. But let her find out. It’s not as if you actually mean her any good anyway. She never did anything to me. I just hated that the teachers all thought we should be like her…we probably should have tormented the teachers instead,” finished Sharica.

“Well, it was just the teachers for you. I had to hear it at home too. My mom hated her mom. Every time Mariah made the honor roll my mom climbed all down my throat. Why can’t you be as smart as Mae’s daughter? Mae never has to come to school for Mariah. Why can’t you think of something besides boys? I have reason to dislike her. In fact, I have reason to hate her. My life would have been a whole lot easier if it wasn’t for her,” Eva finished vehemently.

Her two companions stared at her in silence. They could have easily pointed out that maybe she should hate her mom and not Mariah. However, they wisely held their tongues.

Eva continued, “Now she has to go and marry some big shot millionaire. Anthony was well off and I scored pretty big in the divorce settlement. Do you know that my mom was actually proud? She is always bragging about how Eva got this or Eva got that in her divorce decree. I finally beat Mariah at something. Now she comes back and marries better. I can’t let her get away with that.”

“Eva, I hate to break it to you, but she already has,” said Sharica.

“I wouldn’t go betting my implants on that honey,” Eva’s voice dripped with venom.

“Let it go girl,” Lindsay begged.

“All my life my mother has said the only thing I could do was pull men. I never got A’s. But I always got my man. And now, I’m gonna get hers.”
