“Wildwood On the Lake put the “wild” back in Wildwood,” Petra Weber says. The place has been in her family since the seventies and now she and her husband manage and run it. What started as a motel has been renovated to be more like a hotel. “We offer suites, kitchenettes, cabins, a heated indoor pool, and much more,” she adds. With amenities such as a jacuzzi and fireplace, she attracts many types of travelers looking for affordable Adirondack lodging.
Located centrally in town, Wildwood on the Lake is walking distance from restaurants, stores, and the Arts Center. Petra's aim is to attract more families looking for affordable Lake Placid lodging, while offering a romantic retreat for couples. She is always working with local restaurants and spas to offer packages for all seasons.
She keeps busy with winter groups and teams such as ORDA (Olympic Regional Development Authority), plus traveling media and events. Wildwood is big enough for international ski teams, but Petra never lets anyone forget how quaint and informal it can be. With newly updated Lakeview and Lakeside Suites that spotlight Whiteface Mountain, guest can take a paddle boat, canoe, or rowboat on to Lake Placid. Wildwood on the Lake is one of only a few independently owned Adirondack lodging with direct access to Lake Placid that is not a major chain or resort. Guest can spend their entire day without leaving the grounds.
While the place is busy for winter skiers and for the holidays, the fall is ideal for leaf peepers. “Fall foliage is spectacular here,” Petra adds. “Every corner of Lake Placid looks like a living postcard.” Fall Adirondack lodging packages include a two day mid week special for $175 including the Lakeside and Lakeview Rooms and $325 for Specialty Rooms that include a fireplace and jacuzzi. All prices include taxes and are subject to change.
