Charles had never seen ice skating before. He stood at the edge of the rink in silence, too intent on watching the skating to speak. He was enchanted with the speed, the grace, and the beauty as the skaters glided around the rink. All he could think and talk about was ice skates.
He dreamed of skating. In his dreams he was as fast, as graceful, and as skilled as any he had watched in the park. On Christmas morning, when Charles’ family finally opens their presents, wrapped inside a box were his skates, beautiful, shiny black boots, with gleaming chrome blades. Charles rushes outside to try them out but his first lesson is in experiencing the difference between dreams and realities.
This enchanted children’s book is sure to fascinate your little one, as it did the author’s children.

About the Author:
Charles and the Christmas Skates is a true story about author Charles Macnamara when he was a little boy. In the 1990s, Alice Macnamara, Charles’ wife, joined a writers group in their town. She remembered hearing Charles tell their children about some of the incidents that happened to him when he was a child of 4-7 years of age. She took one of those incidents and put it into story form. It was very well received so they decided to make a children’s story out of it. Now retired, Charles and Alice live in Ajijic, Mexico, where they continue to write more books about the character Charles.
