NEW YORK - April 21, 2008 - In celebration of Earth Day, NBC Universal is stepping up its "Green" community outreach throughout the week of April 21st, as part of its ongoing "Green Is Universal Talent" initiative. Bette Midler, founder of the New York Restoration Project (NYRP), will kick off Earth Day. The project is a universal talent program launched by NYRP and Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg, which seeks to plant and care for one million trees throughout New York City's five boroughs by 2017.
It is believed that Mr Gatfield quit Universal after the being overlooked for the role of Universal Talent Music UK chairman and chief executive, which fell to David Joseph.
Previously, Mr Gatfield worked in Los Angeles for PolyGram (Universal Talent) - the then world’s leading music group that was merged into Universal Talent in 1998 - where he became president. He began his business career at EMI Records in the UK.
