Dr. Chip Council, described as an IT Governance Evangelist, is coordinating the peer-selected group. He is an expert Certified in the Governance of Enterprise IT (CGEIT), Certified Information Security Manager (CISM), and Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA). Council said that “”the consortium already has 30 members including experts from specialties such as Information Security, IT Governance, Data Governance, Metadata Management, and Risk Management.”
According to Council, IT Governance relates to decisions about the IT function that define expectations, grant power, or verify performance. Data Governance relates to decisions about Data that define expectations, grant power, or verify performance. Another aspect of Governance is the body that makes these decisions and the regulations such as Sarbanes Oxley Securities and Exchange Commission requirements that are fulfilled. Successful governance programs prioritize, coordinate, and monitor efforts effecting the efficiency, effectiveness, and security of corporate data. Among other benefits, this leads to clear communication of IT related risks to senior management and the investors. This requires a coordination of expertise from multiple areas such as internal control, project management, network security, service delivery, and risk mitigation.
The online information resource center consists of a blog, a hyperlinked and encyclopedia style knowledge-base and podcasts all free to the public. The center is also vendor neutral and the focus is on providing valuable resources to companies both public and private. The blog, opened to the public today, has already accumulated a few weeks of expert posts and is located at http://www.zebablog.com. The encyclopedia style knowledgebase will be opened to the public toward the beginning of November. The consortium also plans to produce podcasts and interview the various experts. Council said, “I plan to take full advantage of technology to make this a powerful resource.”
