FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release)Sep 25, 2008 – TINA DAY
(UNITED STATES)
I’ve always been fascinated with both the human figure and the human psyche. I yearn to capture their essence on canvas. My artistic objective is to transport the person or scene I see before me into dreamlike spaces to explore themes of connectedness, aloneness, memory and imagination. Sometimes a thing such as a house may represent a person and sometimes a landscape is a journey into the human psyche. My technique includes using distortion, gesture, muted tonalities, idiosyncratic markings and vigorous brushstrokes within a process of rapidly laying oil paint on canvas. The immediacy and textural qualities of this method allows me to be in tune with the rhythmic flow of the subject as well as with the rhythm of my own body in the act of painting. Through this act I seem to complete a part of myself.

QUILLIAN
(UNITED STATES)
J.Quillian's paintings are exhibited in 18 countries worldwide. Quillian's first fame came at age 17 when he won a national award at the United Nations for a social-political commentary painting titled, MY BROTHER'S KEEPER in 1964. During 2006, he spent the summer touring Australia where he painted a number of gosche works there followed by oil works in Tulsa, Oklahoma which will be included in the show. The surprisingly affordable works with subjects ranging from the Grand Prix of Monaco to ecology and entertainment are painted in bright vibrant colors reminiscent of Cirque du Soleil. "My works are based in history while occupying their spaces with appealing coloration and imagery," Quillian said. "I have been privileged to have spent time in museums and galleries on four continents and have learned my craft from the masters of the ages." When Quillian was commissioned in Chicago to paint actress Rita Hayworth for her daughter, Princess Yamine aga Kahn in 2000 he invented what he termed Biographical Portraiture and has painted portraits of unknown and celebrity subjects since. One of the works to be shown at Galerie Gora is a collaboration with his protege' Mohammed al Hamadi of Doha, Qatar. Presently, Quillian is working with several established artists as students and collaborators on various subjects including a biographical portrait of Dr. Martin Luther King and a history mural currently being designed. He is actively looking for additional talented artists to mentor.

SCHÜTZ
(GERMANY)
"Not only birth, pain, sexuality, work, death, the human body as expressed in manners, gestures and facial expressions are basic human and cultural experiences, but also the individual voice impressive in all its shades for emotional layers and articulated speech. Even the perception and design of signs in its communicative and meditative meaning is a cultural experience, which is common to all cultures. Universal signs are therefore a fundamental theme in my work. This work is not about their mere aesthetical illustration, but is to respect their ability to relate to complex issues, expressed in almost "endless” variations (such as: The Wanderer, BA-CH, Strings). For the changes that a sign is experiencing, I have developed certain methods that are put into action only on the computer. Analogue methods are also found in music, mathematics and even in poetics. Art for me is therefore a recognition level to which the universal perception is displayed."

Exhibition September 30th to October 18th 2008
Opening Wednesday, October 1st, 2008 (5pm-7pm)
