Big Congratulations Puke Albania! Green Time 2008 results

Sept. 25, 2008 - PRLog -- More than 2 hundred Albanian residents joined Green Hour on Sunday September 20 between 7.30 and 8.30 by flicking the switch, turning appliances off stand-by and enjoying an hour of quiet darkness, according to poll results. People and businesses across the city showed their support for Green Time resulting in an impressive 6.6% drop in energy usage across the usually glittering, according to Energy Albania. This is twice the anticipated energy saving and represents a decrease of 19.59 tones of carbon dioxide - the equivalent of taking 48,613 cars off the road for an hour. (http://www.findalbanian.com )
"The overpowering support for Green Time from Albanians and from many communities across the country has amazed us and shows the willingness of both business and individuals to start cutting emissions," said Kani Suranki the organizer of this event. Many volunteering polling companies offered to survey close to 100 residents and found 34% participated in Green Time by either switching off lights, turning off computers, televisions and other household appliances. Energy Albania's Retail main organizer Kani Suranki said the achievement of Green Time was indication in the energy savings made between 9.30 and 10.30 pm on Sunday night.
"The community really got behind the source and showed they truly care about global warming. The Green Time had originally predicted that only 5% would be a good result but this is more than double that - an outstanding result."Leading into the event over 200 individuals were registered and over 50 businesses. Their expression was "We are thrilled with the contribution and energy decrease results on the night which have been greatly exceeded our original expectations," Mr Suranki said. Green Time was initiated by Green Albania and is the start of an ambitious campaign to cut Albania’s greenhouse gas emissions by 5% by September 2009.
