Sep 25, 2008 – As part of the eleven DMOs throughout the state, the Long Beach Island Region had been requested to submit fall events for the New Jersey Office of Travel and Tourism to promote the Great Destinations in Any Direction Campaign. Chowderfest Weekend has been chosen to run with six other events in the entertainment sections of this weekend’s New York Times, Philadelphia Inquirer, Washington Post, Newark Star Ledger, Bergen Record, Camden Courier Post, Asbury Park Press, Jersey Journal, Press of Atlantic City, Trenton Times, Staten Island, Wilmington News Journal, Richmond Times Dispatch and The Baltimore Sun.
Also, October’s issue of New Jersey Monthly features Southern Ocean County Chamber of Commerce’s Decorated Scarecrow Contest, Chowderfest Weekend and 54th Annual Long Beach Island Surf Fishing Classic as three of the Fall Getaways recognized this season.
The Chamber has received recognition from the state as a Destination Marketing Organization, which is focused on promoting tourism through outreach and marketing efforts. Their 2009 initiatives already have committees hard at work developing February 8-15 Chocolate Week, April 19 Wedding Road Show, A Tour d’Amore of LBI Region Wedding Venues and Services and June 7-12 Restaurant Week. The Chamber is also discussing opportunities with promoters of successful out of state events to add the Long Beach Island Region to their event locations to further increase off season visitors.
