Why Are Door Most Doorknobs Round? Makes it tough to open doesn't it?

Hospitals and nursing homes learned a long time ago that round door knobs just can't be turned very easily. They also are more apt to hold germs. How can this same solution be applied to the home?

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release)Sep 23, 2008 – Recently Assistive Technology Services studied the mobility issues of many seniors in the home compared to hospitals and nursing homes. One of the findings was that the simple process of opening a door at home was measurably more difficult than the same process at a hospital or nursing home.

Why was this? Very simple. Hospitals and nursing homes discovered years ago that a round door knob was very difficult to use by most patients. It can be slippery and many patients do not have the ability to grasp the knob due to various physical conditions. Therefore they installed door 'handles' that can be easily opened by the hand, part of the hand or a body part like the elbow.

So now Assistive Technology Services has brought that same technology to the home with a slip on door knob handle.
