Little Rock, AR: Toyota and Lexus models have earned 11 out of a total possible 19 segment awards in JD Power and Associates’ study on vehicle dependability for 2008, the highest for any vehicle manufacturer. This is the third consecutive year that Toyota earns this distinction in JD Power and Associates’ Vehicle Dependability Study (VDS).
Lexus, Toyota’s luxury division, was the leading nameplate among vehicles for the 14th consecutive year. In this study, Lexus won top awards in six segments, while Toyota won in five.
About the Vehicle Dependability Study
This study takes into consideration the number of problems users have faced with their models over a three-year period. A score of problems per 100 (PP100) vehicles is arrived at starting from 2005 models. The aim of this study is to fix a set score of the problems that consumers face, which will eventually aid in future buyers’ decision making.
For 2008, Lexus had an overall score of 120 PP 100. This makes it the most reliable nameplate among all vehicles taken for this study. The luxury model, the LS, is among the leading scorers in its segment. It earned a score of 72, making it the first ever vehicle to achieve a sub-100 PP score since these ratings began. In the Large Premium Multi-Activity Vehicle section, the Lexus LX 470 earned 124 PP 100.
Among Toyota models, the hybrid vehicle, Prius led the Compact Car segment with a score of 141 PP 100, while the Tundra clocked a score of 159 PP 100, all leaders in their respective segments.
