PRLog (Press Release) –
Sep 22, 2008 – (CHARLOTTE, NORTH CAROLINA) On Saturday, October 18, over 1,000 runners and walkers will make their way through the brisk morning sunrise to Michael Waltrip’s Raceworld USA in Cornelius. The same things motivate them all; they love running and they want to help stomp out cancer. The Lung Strong 15k/5k is quickly becoming one of the most exciting and impactful charity race events in Lake Norman. Last year the event raised over $70,000, 100% of which was given to Lung Cancer charities including LUNGevity Foundation and Presbyterian Cancer Center. And this year, they are hoping to set a new record by raising over $100,000.
The event began as a grassroots movement when organizer Eddie David’s father passed away from lung cancer in 2007. “This is my passion. I love my father, and I love running. When he passed, I just knew what I had to do.” Not only does David want to help fund cancer research, he wants to educate. “One of the biggest misconceptions about lung cancer is that it’s a smoker’s disease. In fact, approximately 50% of the people diagnosed with lung cancer have never smoked or are former smokers.”
With music, food, and inflatables for the kids, there’s no shortage of fun for runners and non-runners. Come out to Raceworld USA located at 20310 Chartwell Center Drive, Cornelius, NC 28031 on Saturday morning, October 18 to help put an end to lung cancer. The fun begins at 7:45 a.m.
