FAIRFAX, Va., — George Mason University’s College of Education and Human Development (CEHD) has hired Marc Williams to serve as the chief marketing officer for the Center for Sport Management and CEHD. Williams, a veteran sports marketing executive is also a professional faculty member in the college’s sport management program.
In his new role at Mason, Williams will spend much of his time in developing marketing and fund-raising events, engaging faculty members in marketing discussions and bringing a new way of thinking to the college about how to share its stories. His high energy and talent in marketing will attract significant new attention to the quality programs within CEHD. Williams will also work closely with the Center for Sport Management in building its impact, reputation and funding.
“His leadership will certainly be a major influence on how we present ourselves to the region and the nation,” says Jeff Gorrell, dean of CEHD. “In the short time he has been here, Marc has already connected CEHD and the Center for Sport Management to high profile events. I am delighted to be able to add such a talented, dynamic person to the many talented people already in the college and in the sport management program."
Prior to joining Mason, Williams was most recently the brand director for athletic retailer Champs Sports. While at Champs Williams was responsible for the development and execution of national and international marketing plans and managed the company’s corporate sponsorships with the NBA, NFL, MLB and NHL.
During his career in sports marketing, Williams has also worked for Footaction U.S.A. as well as Reebok International. He is also the CEO of his own sports marketing company, Williams Communications, LLC.
“I am very excited to be working with Mason's bright students and the College of Education and Human Development administration, faculty and staff,” says Williams. “The university is innovative, entrepreneurial and dynamic and I look forward to working with them on the progressive initiatives they are already engaged in locally, nationally and internationally.”
