Charity founder Tyrone Keys attended a White House ceremony honoring volunteerism. Keys was selected as an invited guest by a presidential volunteers committee and President George W. Bush to recognize his charitable efforts.
The charity Keys founded is All Sports Community Service (ASCS), a Tampa-based 501(3)c organization supported by NFL Charities that provides opportunities for student/athletes to attain personal enrichment through higher education. Keys is a former NFL player for the Chicago Bears, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and San Diego Chargers. His Bears team won Super Bowl XX in January 1986.
This marked the second time that the White House has invited Keys and ASCS to hear the president speak about volunteerism. The first time was November 2, 2002 when Air Force One touched down at Tampa International Airport.
Keys says, “It was quite an honor to learn so much about the history of service and how each president from Roosevelt to current have been a part of it and how each one strengthens each one program. Kennedy started the PEACE CORP. Clinton started AMERICAN CORP. This administration started USA FREEDOM CORP., which is a definite call to service.”
In 2003, People Magazine published an article featuring Keys and All Sports Community Service in one of its issues.
Keys was accompanied at the ceremony on the White House lawn by his wife Bessie, son T.J. and daughter Chyla.
