6th ANNUAL LABOR MARKET STUDY PROVIDES KEY JOB AND SALARY DATA FOR SANTA CRUZ COUNTY ONLINE

                                                   www.usworks.com/santacruzwib

September 2008: Approximately 3,000 businesses in Santa Cruz County were contacted for the largest, most comprehensive survey undertaken by Santa Cruz County. Santa Cruz County is one of the leading counties in the United States when it comes to providing the most in-depth job market data available anywhere.

The study, which targeted all companies with five or more employees, was sponsored by the Workforce Investment Board of Santa Cruz County. The Board brings together business, local government, education providers and the community to provide a network of inter-related programs and services to bridge the gap between the needs of employers and the skills of employees.  The Board invests $5.8 million of Federal funding in workforce development services including the Career Centers located in Watsonville, Capitola, & Santa Cruz.  The goal is to build economic prosperity through workforce development.  Information collected through the telephone interviews is used to assist the Workforce Investment Board in funding and developing programs that serve both job seekers and employers.  The information gathered in the survey will also provide a forecast of Santa Cruz County’s future job growth and salary ranges for specific occupations.  See www.usworks.com/santacruzwib

"The survey information is very exciting for the business community in this rapidly changing County economy.  This provides value added information about employment needs to help us all make smart business and community decisions, said JoAnne Dlott, Chair of the Workforce Investment Board, who is Vice-President of Human Relations for the Seaside Company.   "The data from this survey will allow Workforce Santa Cruz County to do a better job of matching employers with qualified job candidates and allow the Board to determine which training programs should receive priority in funding."

"This is the largest job market survey of its kind conducted in Santa Cruz County," said Kathy Zwart, Director of the Workforce Investment Board.  "As a result, local workforce development agencies, employers, job seekers and training providers will be provided with by far the largest data base ever assembled of current, local information on which jobs are in demand and which are not, what they pay and where they are located geographically.  This in turn will help foster a significantly more efficient environment in local school-to-work, work-to-work and welfare-to-work programs where job seekers can spend less time finding gainful employment, employers will have an easier time finding qualified applicants, and schools will train more people for jobs that are in demand."

The Workforce Investment Board contracted with ERISS Corporation to conduct the survey.  ERISS, headquartered in San Diego County, is a leading provider of job market, labor market, and economic development information and web applications and has conducted similar projects across the United States.  “ERISS is very excited to be working with the Workforce Investment Board and to provide real time information on the local job market”, stated Barbara Nyegaard, CEO of ERISS.

ERISS has delivered the results in an interactive Web application integrating the information collected. This web application www.usworks.com/santacruzwib will provide the entire Santa Cruz County community with a wealth of online tools for researching Santa Cruz County’s current job market conditions.
