Sept. 13, 2008 - PRLog -- Hermosa Beach, CA – The Hermosa Beach Soccer Club (www.HermosaBeachSoccerClub.com) today announced that it has launched a used soccer equipment collection program for the purpose of outfitting needy youth in the U.S. and abroad.  The program will include the collection of used shoes, balls, uniforms and other soccer-related goods.  HBSC, a highly-regarded adult men’s and women’s soccer club in Los Angeles, has launched the collection program in support of the United States Soccer Foundation’s Passback program (www.Passback.org) to provide needed supplies to low-income youth across the globe.  HBSC has set a goal of collecting 500 pieces of equipment by December 31, 2008.

The Passback Program is an initiative of the U.S. Soccer Foundation created to help meet the soccer uniform and equipment needs of all communities, regardless of income, gender or location.  Since its inception, the program has grown enormously and thousands of pieces of equipment have been collected and distributed to schools, clubs and youth organizations across the nation.

“The Passback program has benefitted youth around the world.  From a small school in Zimbabwe to an after-school program in inner-city New York.  Through local, grass roots organizations such as the Hermosa Beach Soccer Club, the U.S. Soccer Foundation can reach its goal of collecting and distributing a million pieces of soccer equipment.  HBSC will do its part by rallying HBSC and the broader South Bay soccer community,” said HBSC President Brian Dragich.

“The Hermosa Beach Soccer Club has a tradition of community outreach.  The Passback program fits perfectly into our mission of assisting in projects that benefit at-risk youth,” said HBSC Founder Jesse Torres.  “We are extremely grateful for the efforts of the South Bay Soccer Store in Hermosa Beach.  South Bay Soccer has joined the effort by acting as the central collection point for all donations.  South Bay Soccer is a true community partner.”

Donations may be dropped off at the South Bay Soccer Store located at 504 Pacific Coast Highway, Hermosa Beach.  South Bay Soccer is open Monday through Friday, 11:00 am to 7:00 pm and Saturday, 11:00 am to 5:00 pm.  Donations of soccer equipment should be in reasonable condition, as there are safety issues with distributing gear that is in exceptionally poor condition.  Gear may include shoes, apparel, balls, cones and any other soccer-specific equipment that may be put to good use.  Donation receipts will be provided at the time of donation.

The Hermosa Beach Soccer Club extends its gratitude to its generous sponsors: Del Amo Construction (DelAmoConstruction.com), Elliott/Drinkward Construction (ElliottDrinkward.com), Security Savings Bank (BankPlace.com), Coastline Steel (CoastlineSteel.com), Quality Seafood (QualitySeafood.net), SCS Engineering Inc (SCSEngineering.com) and FFI Soccer Magazine (FFISoccer.com).

The Hermosa Beach Soccer Club (www.HermosaBeachSoccerClub.com) was founded in 2000. Located in Los Angeles’ South Bay, HBSC is home to elite men’s Premier, Over-30 and Over-40 teams as well as an elite women’s Premier team.
