First Ever Skydiving Event Over Mt. Everest (3rd - 6th Oct, 2008)

Sept. 12, 2008 - PRLog -- High & Wild, a UK based agency, in partnership with local operator Explore Himalaya Travel & Adventure is organizing the first ever skydiving program over Mount Everest (29,035ft). This adventure surpasses any experience in skydiving so far.  Everest Skydive pushes the boundaries harder and higher, for this is a challenge, taking skydiving into two harsh and extreme environments – high altitude at 29,500ft plus extreme cold.

Everest Skydive draws upon the knowledge and skills of an unusual group of skydivers, some of whom are also Everest mountaineers. By drawing on detailed knowledge of the geographical area of Mt. Everest, the surrounding Sherpa lands, and skills learnt in both disciplines the adventure has been brought to fruition after two years of meticulous planning and preparation.

Prior to the actual jumps, there will be practice jumps at the drop zone at Shyangboche. The actual jump will take place from Pilatus Porter aircraft. The skydiving will be done from Swiss made Pilatus Porter aircraft. The familiarization jumps will be made from Russian MI17 helicopter and Polish M-28 Skytruck.

More than 40 people have registered to take part in this program. The first jump (tandem and solo) will take place on the 3rd Oct '08 at Shyangboche and the last jump on 6th Oct. The jump dates in Nepal avoid the 200mph jet stream that roars across Everest’s summit. The names of this year’s skydive members will go into the international record books.
