East Bay Fashion Resource
Oakland’s own East Bay Fashion Resource announces their business workshops for October 2008.
With the booming emergence of independent fashion, comes the reality that just an idea doesn’t cut it in the industry. Many fashion designers open up their business but fail within their first 2 years because they do not know how to operate their business.
“I feel I am one of the lucky ones. I have resilience and have bounced back from the direst of circumstances. I hope to help others by educating them with the knowledge I’ve gained from experience,”
Lynne, the designer and owner of Porcelynne Lingerie, opened her business in 2002 as a bridal lingerie manufacturer, but changed her business in 2003 after re-evaluating her goals. Her line now concentrates on comfort and eco-friendly practices. Jennifer is also currently an instructor at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising.
The duo is completed by Misty Rose, a fellow designer and business owner who’s worked on the other side of the industry as a rep and financial consultant since 2003. Misty creates convertible accessories and clothing for her line mzz T rzz (pronounced Misty Rose).
Ms. Rose describes the group dynamics, “We are a great team. We have approached the industry in different manners. We sometimes agree and sometimes disagree about ways to handle issues. The way we have structured our business seminars gives attendees 2 points of view on how to handle many issues.”
The East Bay Fashion Resource is currently offering a series of 3 seminars on starting and running a fashion design business from concept to market. The next series begins in October and is scheduled for Wednesdays, October 8th, 15th, and 22nd from 6pm to 9pm.
The October series format has changed from the original design, but will return to the original format for November. Only Jennifer Lynne will be conducting the workshops for October. A price reduction of $110 has been made for the change.
