“Nudes and Figures” is the name of the new art exhibition opening next Friday, September 19th at the Red Bluff Art Gallery at 516 Walnut in downtown Red Bluff.
The exhibition is really three separate shows. Red Bluff artist Lisa Davison, who also works as a certified massage therapist, will headline the show with her “It Figures” paintings in the “solo gallery”.
“Lisa’s work is quite extraordinary. Her studies of the female form are not the standard schoolbook approach. She shows a depth and talent in the poses and lighting she uses in her paintings,” says Ana Nelson, Director of the Gallery, “People spend a lot of time looking at Lisa’s paintings because of the complexity, as well as the many interpretations that the work inspires.”
An Artists’ Reception will be held Friday night, September 19th, from 5-8 p.m. Live music and dead food will be part of the evening event. The public is welcome. Dress is casual.
Opening simultaneously in the “group gallery” is “Nudes and Figures” featuring work by a variety of artists, some local and some not so local.
Katya Ulitina is a young Russian woman and her renderings of slick, long-legged, sassy young women are reminiscent of high-fashion advertising. Yet her work is so fresh that it will surely appeal mostly to teens and youth. However, her color and design sense offers something for just about everyone.
On another side of the exhibit, Frank Leonard is recently retired. His photography, now his passion, reflects his sensitive and careful eye. Four of his recent works, all female nudes, are artfully framed and tastefully captivating. “Jody in the Desert” is a good example of the thoughtful locations that Frank uses. Jody is viewed walking away from the camera, in the middle of the desert, the lines of the playa in contrast to her own lines and curves.

Kseniya, a popular young artist from Belarus, has been featured in the Gallery throughout the year and she is also featured in the “Nudes and Figures” exhibit. Her unique style, hovering somewhere around “pointillism”
Both Directors of the Red Bluff Art Gallery are also showing in the new exhibit. Phil Dynan’s nudes have also been published by Verkerke Reprodukties (Holland) and are distributed worldwide as “Art Prints”. The one piece in the show that has never been published or seen before is “Frida about to arrive” and shows a nude and very pregnant woman standing against a field of wheat. She is about to give birth to Frida Kahlo, one of Dynan’s inspirations and favorite artists.
Anastasia Nelson also shows her work entitled “Repose” is a charcoal rendering on paper and has a complexity that draws the viewer in for a closer examination of the subject. Anastasia is a graduate of UC Davis, where she won several awards for her paintings.
Another group exhibit, “Small Figures” is featured in the popular Miniature Gallery. It also includes nudes and figurative drawing by a group of local artists. More information about the exhibits is available by phoning the gallery at 529-1332 or visiting the website www.RedBluffArtGallery.com
