The Multi-Species Aquaculture Facility in Cape May, NJ was left with a fishy situation when massive pipes which extend from tanks at its facility on shore into the water became clogged with aquatic life. This establishment located in Cape May is dedicated to the research of marine life on the New Jersey shore. Under the direction of marine biologists at Rutgers University, the facility is designed to study and promote the cultivation of finfish and shellfish industries in the state.
Over time, the facility's 26" inlet pipes had become clogged with mussels, algae, barnacles, and other underwater growth. Because the inner piping had become encrusted and clogged along its entire length with aquatic life that clung on stubbornly, this was no easy job.
The facility made a call to Russell Reid, a waste management solutions company in New Jersey. Russell Reid hired a professional diver to insert jets into the submerged pipes where they discharged into the ponds, and compressors were set to provide just enough high pressure air to clear the piping of the marine life. The piping was cleaned a distance of 120 feet and helped the facility continue on with its mission.
