Carlsbad, CA – When San Diego Police Department Assistant Police Chief Boyd Long discussed the implementation of a public/private partnership for leveraging San Diego’s existing camera systems and the need for new surveillance technology, SensorWave was on hand to provide a real world case study of a working solution at San Diego’s oldest affordable housing community, Sea Breeze Gardens (formerly Bay Vista Methodist Heights). Chief Boyd was pleading the case for city council support in an initiative to build a technology platform to that incorporates existing cameras, both private and public, increases coverage areas and directs all camera footage into one central monitoring station for police access. The discussion naturally segued into the actual case study at Sea Breeze Gardens.
Back in February when the City Council voted in support of a bond for the purchase of Sea Breeze Gardens by The Amerland Group, a company that specializes in affordable housing communities, it mandated that the revitalization of Sea Breeze Gardens include a security/surveillance system. Councilman Tony Young called upon Colin Rice of The Amerland Group to discuss how the camera installation had improved resident life and its application for increasing police visibility for proactive deterrence for the property.
Mr. Rice gave kudos to SensorWave for its Virtual Patrol installation, an integrated solution that includes cameras, Matrix DVR recorders, analytics software, a console application, live 24/7 monitoring, talk-down and threat escalation to first responders. The system also generates alerts when there is potential for an incident and gives on-site security, remote property management and police real-time viewing into the property.
After going live with Virtual Patrol in early July, residents, property management and owners, and the San Diego Police Department have unanimously noted a recognizable shift in the environment and a decrease in property issues. In alignment with SDPD initiatives for private/public partnerships, the Southeast Division of SDPD has access to the Virtual Patrol Console for viewing the 47 cameras that act as what Assistant Chief Boyd calls a “force multiplier” at Sea Breeze Gardens.
