One can now experience a piece of China minus the three hours flight to the Republic. The largest indoor Chinatown in South East Asia was officially launched recently by YB Puan Melanie Chia, Assistant Minister of Sabah’s Finance Ministry at 1Borneo Hypermall.
The Chinatown Yu Yuan Garden located at the lower ground floor, north atrium of 1Borneo is the latest addition to the hypermall endless tourist destinations. With a sprawling 20,000 sq ft of space, it offers more than 100 categories of high quality merchandise ranging from Chinese folk art, handicrafts, paintings, calligraphy, clothing, food & beverage, articles of everyday use and everything in between.
Apart from retail therapy, patrons can also visually feast on the myriad display of traditional costumes, relics, music instruments in the Chinatown as well as various wedding procession of different Chinese ethnic group and demonstrations unique only in this premise.
“The establishment of Chinatown Yu Yuan Garden in 1Borneo is truly to preserve as well as strengthen centuries-old Chinese culture while passing down this mission to the next generation”, stressed Tan Tiang Lai, Group Director of Sagajuta (S) Sdn Bhd echoed by Xie Fun Gen, China Consul General from Kuching, Sarawak who was also present in the launch.
The Chinatown Yu Yuan Garden opens daily from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and is easily accessed via 1Borneo’s shuttle buses while staying guests in the four hotels within the mall can just pop in at their convenience.
