FREE Vascular Screenings to Hampton Roads Residents for the Month of September

Sept. 2, 2008 - PRLog -- Unique Imaging Solutions, Inc. to Conduct FREE  Vascular Screenings to Hampton Roads Residents for the Month of September in support of Peripheral Vascular Disease (PVD) at 2113 Hartford Road, Suite B, Hampton, VA.   Vascular disease is among the leading causes of death in the U.S., yet it is generally asymptomatic until a catastrophic event occurs, such as a stroke or aneurysm rupture.

Three (3) tests that save lives —all of which are non-invasive, painless, and no needles —will include an Internal Carotid Doppler Screening, an Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Screening, and an Ankle Brachial Index. Participants will also have their blood pressure measured. Educational materials on vascular diseases including their prevention and treatment will be distributed to patients during the screenings.

Conditions Associated with Peripheral Vascular Disease

If caught in the early stages, PVD can be managed with diet and exercise, medications, or treated with minimally invasive procedures. Certain conditions are associated with a higher risk of vascular disease, including:
•   Age—people older than 55 years-of-age are at greater risk
•   Hypertension
•   High blood cholesterol
•   Smoking
•   Diabetes
•   Obesity
•   Lack of exercise
•   Family history of vascular disease
•   Previous heart of leg problems

Vascular disease outside the heart kills and cripples countless Americans every year despite widely available non-invasive procedures to detect and treat its most common forms: carotid artery disease, peripheral arterial disease (PAD), and abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA).

•   More than 15,000 people die each year in the U.S. from rupture of an AAA. It is estimated that more than one million people are living with undiagnosed AAA and at least 95 percent of these can be successfully treated if detected prior to rupture.
