Modern Costa Rica : Politically and Economically Stable

The neo-liberal modern outlook has resulted in the privatization of the state-run institutions.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PR Log (Press Release)Sep 02, 2008 – The economic, social and demographic growth of Costa Rica has been impressive since the end of the Civil War in 1948 due to various inherent factors that made the country stable and prosperous. This stability of the region has been the prime force in attracting foreign investment from high technology enterprises. The entrepreneurs like Ed Mercer (hailing from Canada) fell in love with the pristine views of the county while on vacation with wife. An astute business mind of Ed prompted him to foresee the opportunities in real estate of the region. Hence, Ed Mercer soon ventured into the land development business amassing thousands of acres of breathtaking land. Together, Ed and Sylvaine created a one stop shop organization that aimed at making the buying and selling of their properties easy and pleasant for the buyers. A portion of very sale of Ed’s company goes towards reforestation efforts and meeting the infrastructural challenges in Costa Rica. A philanthropic millionaire, Ed is compassionately called Mr. Costa Rica as the humanitarian issues of children, women and families have always been taken up passionately by him.

The employees of Ed’s company all praise the economic progress he brought into their lives. Nelson Madrigal Marin (Guard, Ojochal, Costa Rica) speaks of how he lost his first job due to a knee accident and joined Ed’s concern in 2003 on recommendation as a guard. Initially, he hid the matter but soon Sylvaine got the wind of his pain and enquired about the matter. She did not fire him as he thought. Rather, on her property, she got a house built exclusively for Nelson for free. She brought a doctor from United States to operate upon his knee in a private clinic in San Jose for reconstructive surgery. Nelson, to date, thanks God for sending Sylvaine, who showed an extraordinary benevolent spirit by not only covering the medical costs but boosting the morale of the family of the employee as well. Now Nelson can keep on working and his salary is much higher than before with all the social and work benefits. He calls Ed and Sylvaine as the most humanitarian employers he ever met.

Ed Mercer was inducted into the prestigious Environmental Hall of Fame for his pioneering efforts to save the wild life species of the scarlet macaws, white-faced monkeys and the sea turtles, which were on the verge of extinction in Costa Rica. The security guards were posted by Ed to stop the illegal poaching. Ed also ensured that thousands of almond tree were planted to attract the macaws to breed and increase their population along with that of monkeys, whose population increased in the safe habitats. For sea turtles, Ed provided the protected nesting beaches. His enterprise, Edward R. Mercer foundation aims at preserving this planet by ecological conservation and education. Having spoken as a renowned public speaker in over 86 countries, Ed shared limelight with creative people like Tony Robbins, Zig Ziglar and Donald Trump.

After the end of the civil war, the welfare system and the public school institutions expanded greatly in this country which Ed calls home. The period between the 1950s and the 1970s was a golden era, though in eighties due to inflation, the growth somewhat receded. In 1986, President Arias had a peace plan implemented that won him a Nobel Prize and the county, its pride and stability. The tourist industry was on the top this time, influx of foreign tourists was steadily rising year after year.

The period of nineties witnessed the growth and specialization through the improvements made in the hotel infrastructure improvements as well as the conservation of biodiversity in the national parks and the biological reserves. At present, the two sterling features of the tourism in Costa Rica have been the concentration on ecotourism and the formulation and arrival of large international hotel chains in the region. The neo-liberal modern outlook has resulted in the privatization of the state-run institutions. The efficiency and professionalism of the private services are a far cry from the earlier situation where the rule of the monopolies was monstrous. The economic and the political stability of Costa Rica is a big indicator of the fact that it is the majority of the people who will benefit immensely from the new incorporated changes that herald an end of the power center in only in a few bureaucratic institutions.
