If successful, SCAACI will send you half of the cash proceeds realized, along with a contribution certificate and IRS Form 8283 for the half it keeps. SCAACI hopes to raise money for a down payment on a mixed use property in Trenton, NJ that will serve as its headquarters.
SCAACI is a New Jersey IRC 501[c][3] corporation that was formed in 1972 to educate the public on sickle cell disease (scd), a dreaded, genetic blood disorder that mostly affects African-Americans. In an affected person, the red blood cells have a jagged, irregular shape that makes passage though capillaries very difficult and extremely painful. Either parent may carry the sickle cell trait with no ill effect. However, if both parents have the trait the odds are very high that any children of such a couple will be born with the disease. While there are treatment protocols, there is currently no cure.
Since its inception, SCAACI as operated from home basements and donated, temporary office space. Acquisition of the Trenton property will give it a permanent home and a visible presence in the community. SCAACI also is a prime supporter of the Lyons League, a youth support organization named for Carolyn Lyons, founder of SCAACI and its Executive Director until her death more that five years ago.
In addition to fighting scd, SCAACI helps families affected by the disease to achieve home ownership.
