SOME FINANCIAL INSTITUTIONS SET BAD EXAMPLE OF PATRIOTISM
Consumer Attorney Defense Network honored to offer pro bono services
when Servicemembers Civil Relief Act (SCRA) violated.
On December 19, 2003, President Bush signed HR 100 into law. This law significantly enhances the protections of the original Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Civil Relief Act (SSCRA) of 1918. Newly named, Servicemembers Civil Relief Act (SCRA) it provides a wide range of protections for individuals entering, called to active duty in the Military, or deployed servicemembers. Intended to postpone or suspend certain civil obligations to enable
deployed Armed Forces personnel to devote full attention to duty and relieve stress on the family members.
• Credit Card Debt/Lawsuit/
• Mortgage-
• Tax Debt
• Secured, Unsecured and Government Debt Issues
The SCRA covers all Active Duty servicemembers, Reservist, and the members of the National Guard while on active duty. The protection begins on the date of entering active duty and generally terminates within 30 to 90 days after the date of discharge from active duty.
Debt Protection Law, P.C. employs many retired veterans and spouses of veterans in different branches of the military.
Therefore, it comes as no surprise that Debt Protection Law, P.C. is girded for immediate action to defend the rights of deployed servicemembers dealing with violations of the SCRA. The ongoing giveback program recipient was determined at the monthly executive meeting; Executive Administrator, La Don Livingston, mother of five servicemembers and wife of retired Vietnam veteran, Conley R. Livingston, Sr., enthusiastically announced, “I am proud to work for such an upstanding law firm that believes in giving back.”
Debt Protection Law, P.C. Senior IT consultant, Phil Blende, Intelligence Specialist recalls while on active duty many shipmates dealt with multiple financial issues, which made performing their assignments unnecessarily more difficult. Blende knows the family members left back home on the “financial front lines” will appreciate the offer of legal assistance that Debt Protection Law, P.C. is offering to those that qualify.
Counselor Randy Lang of Debt Protection Law, P.C., a Consumer Attorney Defense Network says his organization is honored to provide select pro bono services to deployed servicemembers that are ill affected when financial organizations do not adhere to the SCRA, which provides government protection to those men and women serving our country.
According to Debt Protection Law’s lead counsel Keith Kilmer, active duty personnel continue to experience legal nightmares when debt collectors, lenders, mortgage companies and other creditors pursue legal actions despite the SCRA. That is precisely why DPL, a national network of knowledgeable attorneys, is working with armed forces personnel and their families to do their part in serving our country’s brave men and women who defend our freedoms. Both Kilmer and Lang agree that offering legal services is not as dangerous as being deployed. However, we believe it is the very least any patriotic citizen can do to serve their country while enjoying the comforts of freedom the troops unselfishly provide.
If a servicemember encounters a business that refuses to recognize your rights under the SCRA, you may file a complaint with the Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Division within your state of residence and immediately obtain legal assistance through the Armed Forces.
