IRAQ: STRATEGIES FOR DEALING WITH UNCERTAINTY
TOPIC OF GREAT DECISIONS DISCUSSION
AT NEW CANAAN LIBRARY
Stamford, CT: - Thomas Hill, Senior Associate, Center for International Conflict Resolution Associates at Columbia University, will lead the season’s first Great Decisions discussion at the New Canaan Library on Monday, September 22 at 7:00 PM in the Lamb Room.
The U.S. has many options for the war in Iraq beyond ‘staying’ and ‘leaving’, but is any of them feasible. Strategically, ideologically and morally, the U.S. cannot avoid being linked to the future of Iraq, regardless of how and whether it maintains a military presence in that country. Thomas Hill is well qualified to lead this discussion. He has just returned from his 10th field visit to Iraq. Projects he has worked on include conflict resolution capacity building, development of university programming in conflict resolution, and training of potential mediators to handle property disputes. Before entering the field of peace building and conflict resolution, Hill worked for 12 years as a reporter at the New York Daily News and other daily newspapers.
Admission to Great Decisions programs is free and refreshments are available. Dates of future programs are October 27, U.S. Defense and Security and November 17, Foreign Aid: New Players, New Goals?
The Bank of New Canaan is generously supporting the Great Decisions programs at the New Canaan Library. As New Canaan’s only locally-owned, independent commercial bank, the Bank of New Canaan is committed to providing the highest possible level of customer service. Its two branches are located at 156 Cherry Street and 208 Elm Street.
Great Decisions is a program of the Foreign Policy Association presented by The World Affairs Forum, a non-profit, non-partisan community organization dedicated to educating its members, the public and students about international developments and America’s role in the world. The Forum is an affiliate of the World Affairs Councils of America. Programs, schedules and membership information are available at www.WorldAffairsForum.org
