For businesses and their owners hurt by recent flooding in the region, the Iowa Business Recovery Summit was attended by more than 90 people on July 18th in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The event, sponsored by ActionCOACH and the Cedar Rapids Area Chamber of Commerce, was hosted by Mount Mercy College.
ActionCOACH Business Coaches attended from Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota and Louisiana, along with several other local business advisors, and they offered practical ideas and workshops to the attendees. The event aimed at helping business owners affected by the flooding to get on the road to recovery.
The summit received tremendous support from the local media as well as the community at large.
“Truly, the summit was the essence of what ActionCOACH is all about – and that’s about helping people,” ActionCOACH David Drewelow said. Drewelow, head coach for the Iowa/Nebraska Region, organized the summit.
Mount Mercy president, Dr. Chris Blake, opened the summit offering the college’s support of the business community and was followed by NFL and Phoenix Cardinals’ quarterback Kurt Warner, who also endorsed the business summit with a pre-taped a message.
“There is no FEMA funding for the 1,000+ businesses destroyed and damaged by the recent disaster, only SBA loans,” said Drewelow. “Our continuing goal is to provide business owners with practical cashflow generating strategies to help them get back on their feet. Additionally, we are encouraging people to contribute to the Business Recovery Fund established by the Cedar Rapids Chamber and the Greater Cedar Rapids Foundation.”
The business recovery summit was sponsored by Cedar Rapids Chamber of Commerce; the Downtown Cedar Rapids District; Mount Mercy College; the Cedar Rapids Bank & Trust, the Entrepreneurial Development Center; Saxton Strategic Space Solutions; the Armstrong Development Center; Hawkeye Electric; Tektivity; Triplett Office Essentials; the Corridor Business Journal; Mediacom Cable; 89.1 The Spirit Radio.
