Report Buyer, the online destination for business intelligence for major industry sectors, has added a new report analysing the market for lifestyle magazines.
“Lifestyle Magazines: Market Assessment 2008”, which is available at http://www.reportbuyer.com/
Authors of the report note that the past two years have been volatile ones for the lifestyle
magazine market, with a number of high-profile launches and closures, and much corporate activity.
The report shows that since 2004 – a year that saw a number of important new magazine launches, notably Zoo and Nuts within the men’s lifestyle sector – growth within the total men’s and women’s lifestyle magazine market has slowed considerably.
The report further notes that the UK market for magazines has always been a dynamic one, with periods of growth almost inevitably followed by periods of retrenchment in an overcrowded marketplace.
With the magazine market in the UK currently in the latter phase, the proliferation of alternative media channels – particularly the online channel – is exacerbating the problems.
The authors expect that there will almost certainly be more magazine closures during 2008, and publishers are likely to be cautious about initiating launches, preferring to increase their online presence instead.
The report shows that the magazine market is unlikely to show significant growth during the next five years (to 2012), owing to a combination of poor economic conditions (which do not favour what is, in effect, a discretionary marketplace)
