HusbandsandDads.com is a site "where it's cool to be a family man." After several months of development, founders Cory Huff and Jeremy Biser have officially launched a new blog and resource site for men who want to live well and take care of their families. "We're building a community where engaged husbands and fathers can easily connect, learn and share experiences,"
In order to give visitors a chance to interact with each other while reading an article, Huff said they added the new Firefly 'on-page chat' functionality to the blog. "Readers can literally flip a switch and start typing their thoughts on the page." Other people viewing the page have the option to chat with you, so when a few people start talking on the screen it becomes a very dynamic environment.
Biser, who is a former journalist and known for publishing a popular "dad blog" called Discovering Dad, is excited about the opportunity to get back to his journalistic roots. "The majority of articles in Husbands & Dads are going to be more like the ones you might read in the Lifestyle section of a Sunday newspaper or magazine and less like the editorial page," he says. "Our focus - husbands and dads - is an area that is underserved in the mainstream media."
In addition to the blog content, the Husbands & Dads Forums have been created to provide a venue "where it's cool to talk about being a family man." Biser says that he's found (through blogging and working as an advisor for a few online social networks) that men are more likely to share successes and talk about problems in a semi-anonymous environment. "Guys need more outlets to talk about important topics relating to marriage and fatherhood without feeling the pressure of someone right in front of them, judging them, or asking them to turn in their 'man cards'."
So, is Husbands & Dads just for men? Absolutely not, says Huff. "The primary reader we have in mind when selecting topics is married men with kids, but the articles and forums would benefit anyone involved in a relationship with a potential spouse or child." Wives, girlfriends, single dads and men-in-general are all encouraged to visit the blog, forums and subscribe to the feed.
Husbands & Dads is a blog and forums "where it's cool to be a family man." The official launch date of the site is Wednesday, August 20, 2008.
