Raushanah Maxwell, an aspiring author and entrepreneur from Detroit, is set to release her first novel, "I Thought I Wanted A Baller – The Life of a D Girl," on Friday, September 5, 2008. This urban story is unlike any other book from the motor city and will not only entertain, but aspires to raise the consciousness of the dangers of living the fast life of - drugs, sex and crime.
Being from the streets herself, Maxwell is no stranger to a hard life, but what makes her unique, is that she transformed her pain into a story that is meant to inspire change within the community. While growing up in metro Detroit with no mother or father, her biography is similar to the main character of the book, Camary. Without any parents or family, Camary’s aim was to find love and unfortunately she found it in all the wrong places – drug dealers and thugs. "I Thought I Wanted A Baller – The Life of a D Girl," is a riveting novel, inspired through real events and will engage the reader beyond the realms of fiction.
The book has already received astounding reviews from enthusiastic metro Detroit book club members. “It was really exciting and I felt like I was on a ride with Camary throughout her entire life,” says Regina Thomas. “It really takes a lot to keep my attention and I was completely overcome and could not stop turning the pages.”
In addition to being a passionate storyteller, Maxwell is determined to help other aspiring writers fulfill their dreams of publishing novels. In 2007, she created Glamourocity Publications in hopes of educating, inspiring and bringing resources to authors who seek to self publish. With her eyes set for success in taking over the Black fiction world, Maxwell is an author who takes her readers to a new level of urban tales.
