In 2007, selective colleges received a record number of applications from prospective students. While everyone is pleased to see more and more students applying to college, the increase in applicants means that competition for top spots has become incredibly fierce. This fall, Omniac Education is launching free tutoring programs at Arizona schools to help students improve their grades and stand out when it comes time for them to apply to colleges.
It is common knowledge that test scores heavily affect a student's application, but grade point average is all too often overlooked as students try to improve their applications.
"I see so many students who have struggled to achieve a GPA that reflects their true ability," said Mark Truman, Executive Director and Lead College Consultant for Omniac Education. "It's our goal to help students understand how vital their grades are to their future success and give them practical tips and lessons that will raise their grades."
Initially the program will launch at Verrado High School, McClintock High School, and Mesquite High School, spanning multiple districts in the Phoenix metropolitan area. Last year, Omniac Education tutors met with students at Mesquite High, helping dozens of students to raise their grades and improve their college applications.
