Someone once said that “the lifeblood of our business is R&D spend.” And this is commitment is certainly true at Mars Drinks.

Aug. 22, 2008 - PRLog -- With a specific business function dedicated to innovation and research & development, its KLIX and FLAVIA systems are constantly being developed and refined.  This focus on maintaining a leading edge at all times ensures that their drink vending machines deliver the best possible, top quality, branded drinks at all times.

Innovative thinking delivering innovative products has been part of the Mars Drinks culture from the beginning. Since 1973 when the first KLIX machine was introduced, the company has been setting the standards for quality, forward thinking products for the rest of the industry to try to follow.  Over the years, examples of Mars Drinks’ forward thinking have included technology such as voice chip technology and a micro-processor enabling faults to be diagnosed.

In more recent times, this focus on innovation provides the foundations to Mars Drinks’ Thirsty for Change programme.  This is our commitment to provide hot drink systems that enable our customers to have a more sustainable workplace.  We’ve made many innovative changes to our KLIX and FLAVIA systems, and have committed to invest over 20% of our R&D budget in order to achieve further significant reductions.

ust one example of ‘Thirsty for Change’  (http://www.marsdrinks.com/mars-drinks/en/Sustainability/) at work is our FLAVIA N-viro cup that we’ve recently launched – the UK's first eco-friendly hot drinks vending cup.  This is an environmentally friendly alternative to traditional paper cups, which uses PLA, a bio-based plastic lining derived from corn, which is fully compostable.  And to help workplaces reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill, we have established a collection scheme for the N-viro cups (http://www.marsdrinks.com/mars-drinks/en/Sustainability/Y...) and FLAVIA filterpacks in association with Save-a-Cup.
