American Sailor and Talk Fusion Associate, Zach Railey (FL), proudly stood atop the podium and accepted the Silver Medal for the USA during his Olympic Games' debut. It was a moment of victory Zach had always dreamed of and Zach's family, fans and all his Talk Fusion supporters had been anxiously hoping to see!
Heading into the Medal Race of the Finn Class on Day 9 of the Olympics, only 24-year old Zach threatened 3-time Olympic medal winner, Ben Ainslie of Great Britain, in his quest for Gold. Never predicted to be a contender against Ainslie coming into the Olympics, Zach instead surprised the entire world by proving, again and again during the races, to be Ainslie's fiercest competition. Zach initially led the British sailor and then barely slipped to second, trailing Ainslie by only a small margin throughout the 11-race series. Hailed by yachtpals.com as one of the exceptional close match showings and best battles of the 2008 Beijing Olympics, the showdown between Zach and Ben captured media attention around the globe throughout the 9-day competition.
At the end of the hard-fought Finn Medal Race, Ainslie ultimately took the Gold. But Zach also succeeded in doing the nearly impossible - for nine days straight, he had made Ben Ainslie seriously worry about losing it. That's quite a compliment in itself, further enhanced by the fact Zach indeed proved his mettle by holding his own and claiming the Silver Medal for the USA. Taking a medal was the first-time Olympian's goal. So, Zach will leave the Olympics after securing a place in history, having done exactly what he set out to do.
"I picked up the Silver Medal and it all came out like I hoped," he said.
Now that's a happy ending.
Congratulations, Zach, from (Corey Daker) and all of us at Talk Fusion. We are so very proud of you!
