Previously, Kentico has offered only commercial licenses of its software. The new Free Edition supports WYSIWYG editing, search engine optimization, news, blogs, RSS feeds, newsletters, forums, polls, online forms, a product catalog with shopping cart, an image gallery and many other features. It also comes bundled with three Web site templates – a corporate site, online store and personal site. Web developers can easily create their own web sites with custom design and they can extend the system with custom code.
The Free Edition can be used for both commercial and personal sites without any license fees. It is intended primarily for smaller Web sites with up to 1000 pages and a single content editor. The users of the Free Edition are required to put the Kentico logo to the footer of their Web site.
“After four successful years on delivering our content management solution to hundreds of businesses, we decided to offer a free edition to allow more developers and site owners to benefit from our powerful content management platform,” said Petr Palas, Kentico founder and CEO. “We believe that we can offer a strong solution for building Web sites on the ASP.NET platform and we would like to make our system affordable for more Web developers.”
Since releasing the first edition of Kentico CMS in August, 2004, Kentico CMS has been used by more than one thousand Web sites in 60 countries, with notable clients including Bayer, Gibson Musical Instruments, Guinness, Empire Today, Medibank, ireland.ie portal and more than 800 other businesses.
Kentico will showcase its content management solution at the Microsoft Professional Developer Conference in Los Angeles, Calif. and at the Gilbane Conference in Boston, Mass. this fall.
