Washington, D.C.,/Dallas, TX/ Baltimore, MD -- From the catwalk to the table, orange is the new black – or at least it was when it captured the top spot in the Fantasy Table Design showcase at the National Association of Catering Executives (NACE) convention in Philadelphia.
Creative Director of Functions Creative Event Services, Travis-Lee Moore, CPCE, wowed celebrity event judges Mindy Weiss, event planner to the stars, Christa Vagnozzi, Editor of Wedding Channel.com and Walter Scheib, former White House Executive Chef with his modern presentation with a fantasy tablescape entitled “Scitrus Supper Soiree. “
Part of the annual NACE convention, the competition entitled Fantasy Table Design Showcase was held at the Wedding Luncheon in the Crystal Tea Room in the historic Wannamaker Building with more than 700 attendees from the industry. Design contestants were asked to choose one of three themes – organic, modern or vintage. Each table was required to be set for a minimum of two but no more than six place settings.
“I chose to go with ‘modern’ theme because I felt it would be a stand out -- no one else embraced that theme,” says Moore. “The table was industrial chic with non-traditional elements – and lots of tangerine and orange!”
Eight top designers from around the country participated in the Fantasy Table Design competition.
“All of the designs in the Fantasy Table Competition at Experience! 2008 were exceptional and showcased the talents of the attendees," says Daniel Briones, CPCE, President of the National Association of Catering Executives.
"The judges felt that the design by Travis-Lee Moore and Functions Creative Event Services raised the bar on how to create high-impact settings for exceptional events."
“It is important when you execute table top designs to understand that they still need to be realistic,” says Moore. “Guests need to see across the table to their dinner companions – enormous floral designs that dwarf diners who can’t see around them are not only distracting, but you cannot appreciate how beautiful the dinner experience really can be.”
The winner of the competition receives $10,000 in print and Internet advertising by TheKnot.com and weddingchannel.com.
