In 2006 the average breast implant volumes for Aurora patients were 345cc, in 2007 325cc and indications from 2008 have shown this figure has decreased further to 285cc.
The reason for this reduction in breast implant size is uncertain but may be related to adverse publicity generated by celebrities with oversize breast enlargements. Aurora surgeons have also noted more women are opting for a natural appearance in proportion to their overall body shape.
Aurora has also noted a significant increase in the number of people opting for non-surgical breast enhancement with Macrolane. Macrolane is a gel made up of Haluronic acid which is a natural body product. It has been available in the UK since early 2008 and offers a real alternative to surgery for women seeking breast enhancement.
Macrolane breast injections are performed in an outpatient setting and involve minimal scarring and downtime. Up to 120mls of Macrolane are inserted under the breast tissue on each side enhancing and filling the natural breast shape.
Although the volume of Macrolane at 120cc is less than half that of the average implant (285cc) Surgeons at Aurora have found many women are opting for this less invasive breast enhancement option.
