As one of the largest independent care homes groups in the UK, Caring Homes has an experienced development team which provides exceptional homes to meet the specific needs of our residents.
We are currently developing a purpose built sixty bed care home in Shipton-under-
This exceptional home has been specifically designed as a home providing high quality residential and nursing care to the elderly, including those individuals suffering from Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia illness.
The development team has worked closely with leading pioneers in the field of dementia to ensure that the building’s design features compensate for the impairments a person with dementia may have.
Design features include:
• Memory boxes placed next to each bedroom door, to act as a trigger for individuals to identify their personal space
• Automatic lighting in private rooms which is triggered when an individual leaves their bed at night, reducing potential incontinence problems
• Purpose built activities room, in which art therapy, sensory and cognitive reminiscence can take place as well as general pastimes
• Flowing corridors and circulation areas enabling individuals to see exactly where they are going, thus reducing anxiety and frustration caused by disorientation
• Numerous visual triggers, including specialist signage throughout the home, supporting people in orientation and identification of personal and communal areas, again reducing the level of frustration that can be caused through the disorientation of an old converted building
These features can reduce the stress, anxiety and frustration experienced by many and this ultimately supports an improvement in quality of life and retention of dignity.
