Park City Jazz Festival Reaches Out To Teach

This year marks the 10th year for the Park City Jazz Foundation’s Education Day. Hundreds will have an opportunity to meet the celebrity Jazz performers, and learn from them in a workshop environment.

Aug. 13, 2008 - PRLog -- PARK CITY, UT – The Park City Jazz Foundation is inviting music lovers young and old to attend the 10th Annual Park City Jazz Festival Education Day on Saturday, August 23rd. The day will consist of various music workshops including a music improvisation clinic taught by saxophonist Javon Jackson and a clinic on performing with confidence taught by bassist David Bromberg. Singer/songwriters Monty Powell and Anna Wilson will be teaching a song-writing workshop in which students will collaboratively compose a song that will be performed later that evening at the festival.

The Park City Jazz Foundation had over five hundred attendees at last year’s Education Day and expects to see even more people attending the one-of-a-kind workshops this year.

“The beauty is that you are directly in touch with the musicians,” says Kris Severson, Executive Director of the Park City Jazz Foundation. “You can work with them, learn from them, and then see them perform that night. It’s a great way for people to meet and learn from the stars of the Jazz Festival,” he adds.

The Park City Jazz Festival Education Day will be held on Saturday, August 23rd from 10am to 1pm at Ecker Hill Middle School in Park City. Admission is free to the general public and all attendees will receive a complimentary ticket to that night’s Jazz Festival performance. For more information on clinics, clinic times or pre-registering, you can visit the Park City Jazz Festival website at www.parkcityjazz.org.

This year’s Park City Jazz Festival will feature performers such as Blues Traveler, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, Christian McBride, Javon Jackson, Blind Boys of Alabama and the Rippingtons.

The Park City Jazz Foundation is a 501 c ( 3 ) not-for-profit organization located in Park City, Utah, that is committed to the musical education of our youth as well as a heightened public awareness to jazz music.
