German testing and inspection services firm TÜV SÜD (Munich) has acquired Belgian CRO Msource Medical Development (Kraainem) to create a life sciences business unit. Financial terms were not disclosed. The move extends TÜV SÜD’s business into the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries and expands its medical device services into clinical research.
Msource employs 240 staff at its headquarters near Brussels and offices in the Netherlands, Germany, Poland, Spain and the UK. It offers clinical trial and data management, statistics, pharmacovigilance and quality assurance services to the pharmaceutical, biotechnology and medical device industries.
The CRO’s co-founder and managing director, Dr Adriaan Hart de Ruyter, has been appointed managing director of TÜV SÜD Life Science. He will continue to lead Msource’s management team, as well as spearheading further expansion. Msource will remain an independent entity, headquartered in Kraainem. It will become part of TÜV SÜD’s People division, which offers a variety of industrial services, from occupational health and safety to management system certification.
“The opportunity to apply TÜV SÜD’s certification, testing and management skills to clinical research services is the main reason to make this important step forward,” said the division’s managing director, Professor Dr Peter Schaff. “We are creating an important new CRO with the stability of a major company, combined with the flexibility and responsiveness of a mid size CRO,” added Dr Hart de Ruyter.
