“Americans are hooked on their cell phones,” CorFun CIO Glen Chancy explains, “When you leave the house in the morning to start your day, what are the two things you always make sure you have? For most people the answer is – keys and cell phone. If you want to reach people, then texting them on their cell phone is the fastest, surest way to do it.”

As support for this, Glen points to the following statistics concerning American cell phone usage:
*   52 percent of Americans keep their cell phone turned on all the time and 24 percent keep their phone charged most of the time
*   29 percent of Americans say they make more calls with their cell phone than with their home phone.  
*   40 percent of Americans aged 18-29 say they are likely to get rid of their landline. In fact, 49 percent in this age group say they make more calls with their cell phone than with their landline.

“According to our research,” Glen continues, “98% of all text messages are viewed, and 90% are read within the first two hours. This fact correlates into faster and higher results for marketing campaigns than you can get from any other channel.”

Henry Bentley, chief marketer for CorFun, puts the commercial opportunity in mobile text marketing by comparing it to a CorFun specialty – email marketing.

And almost every one of them is reaching its intended audience. In 2008 businesses lost an estimated $500 million dollars in earnings because of lost opt-in emails.
