Comedy and Politics Mix To Bring “Obam-edy: Denver or Bust!”
ATLANTA, GA (August 11, 2008) – (http://www.patriciawilsonsmith.com) One of Senator Barack Obama’s most vocal supporters is joining forces with the owner of one of Atlanta’s brightest new hot spots, and some of Atlanta’s best comedic talent for “Obam-edy: Denver or Bust!”, a night of comedy and fine dining to benefit the Obama Campaign.
The comedy show is the brain-child of Patricia Wilson-Smith, an elected delegate from Georgia’s 7th Congressional District and Executive Director of “Black Women for Obama”, a grass-roots organization with chapters in 25 states nationwide. She, along with Georgette Lake, owner of “My Special Events” in Gwinnett County, came up with the idea to help raise funds to defray the cost of Ms. Wilson-Smith’s trip to Denver, and to do their part to keep funds rolling into the Obama Campaign coffers.
“There are no words to express how excited I am about being a part of such an historic event”, says Wilson-Smith. “We are less than 100 days away from possibly electing an amazing candidate to the highest office in the land. Having the opportunity to be present when he gives his acceptance at the Democratic National Convention is more than I could have dared dream for!”
The event will feature some of Atlanta’s hottest comedians, including Tyler Craig and Pat Brown, of the new BET sitcom “Somebodies” and movie of the same name. Big Drew Thomas of “Comic View” fame is also scheduled to perform, and “Ice Cream”, the host of a popular weekly comedy show at Café Bleu.
