You might have seen her on A&E Biography or read a magazine article about the Emmy Award she received, or perhaps you heard the recent TV interview or web broadcast where she discussed her latest endeavor, an original CD called Grandma Rocks?

Well, if you don't know her I believe its time that you two met. May I introduce you to "Grandma"...that's what everyone calls her, some even call her Grandma Rocks!

Yes, Elissa Oppenheim Schreiner {aka Grandma} is an ageless, fun loving "kid at heart," who is definitely in tune with the 21st century. Besides composing music and playing jazz gigs, she teaches piano and composition, conveying a love of music to her young and not so young students.

Grandma has taught in the school system, she has composed musical scores for regional theaters throughout the USA, written several music books and individual pieces published by Columbia Pictures Publications, Astor Music and Carl Fischer and is the recipient of an EMMY Award for the score of a PBS children's Special. She created the concept and wrote the music for the Let's Celebrate audio series, which received the prestigious Parent Council Ltd. Seal. And now ...finally...a Children's Album called Grandma Rocks. The album was recently released and the reviews are exciting.

Grandma like you, wasn't born a Grandma - time flies when.... you're having... Right! All she knows is she surely got there fast. Yes, aging can be a pain in whatever or wherever and you've got to be brave and lucky as you grow older. For instance, Grandma never anticipated the diagnosis she received from a Neurologist who told her that she had Parkinson's disease. It struck her hard and there were so many unanswered questions that went through her mind. She didn't know if she could continue doing the things that she loved. Would her students understand if her right hand shook with that obvious tremor? How would playing the keyboard in public affect her and how would an audience react to her playing if her hand began to shake? Should she keep it a secret from her friends and students and above all... would she be able to complete the CD or would all of her future dreams go down the drain? That's when you need family and luckily she's got a warm loving one.

Her devoted husband, children and grandchildren have given her the encouragement and support to continue. And she thought... there are big obstacles in everyone's life... but you've got to get on with it, push ahead, take control, and that's exactly what she does... No complaining!

Grandma looks at life through the eyes of an adventurer and when there's a rocky road to climb Grandma keeps on forging ahead... singing all the way!
