CEAI Wins $282,000 Sakai Implementation Contract for the Ohio Department or Education

Aug. 5, 2008 - PRLog -- CampusEAI Consortium (CEAI), a global, not-for-profit information technology services and consulting provider, has won a $282,000 contract to implement Sakai for the Northern Buckeye Education Council (NBEC), a not-for-profit Council of Governments organized to provide Northern Ohio K-12 educational entities with low cost administrative services.

CEAI will implement Sakai to support Ohio Department of Education’s Data Driven Decisions for Academic Achievement (D3A2) Online Classroom Assessment Module (CAM) project. D3A2 is long-term initiative focused on developing the capacity of educators while improving instruction and student achievement. D3A2 provides systemic access to timely data and educational resources aligned to Ohio’s Academic Content Standards.

When complete, the CAM will allow teachers to create new assessment items, such as tests and quizzes, and organize them into local collections or banks for reuse. This online classroom software:

       * Compiles and delivers web accessible standards-based assessments

       * Stores banks of test questions and response to allow printing of assessments

       * Presents groupings of questions for student access and consideration (i.e. – a test or a quiz)

       * Provides multiple methodologies for scoring these tests or quizzes and for transferring results to the D3A2 Data Warehouse for further analysis and/or reporting

CEAI will implement the CAM, building upon existing functionality in the Sakai Collaboration and Learning Environment (Sakai CLE). Sakai, an open-source project developed by leading institutions of higher-education will be enhanced to support the needs of the CAM project, and allow Ohio K-12 districts and educators to author, deliver, and assess online diagnostic tests. CEAI will couple its Sakai expertise with its project management, software development, implementation, testing, training, and support services to deliver a complete Sakai solution to NBEC.

“We are excited [for CEAI] to add the CAM short cycle assessment capabilities to the suite of data analysis services available through the D3A2 Project. This capability is the most frequently requested enhancement that schools and teachers are requesting of us.”stated Eric Bell, D3A2 Project Manager for NBEC.As part of the CAM project, CEAI will integrate Sakai into Ohio Department of Education’s existing Oracle’s Identity & Access Management system to ensure that existing Ohio students, teachers, and administrators can be provisioned into CAM seamlessly. CEAI will also integrate into Ohio Department of Education’s Oracle Business Intelligence system to support leveraging student assessment results in reports as part of the D3A2 project, allowing diagnostic testing data to be used to measure and target student progress.

Duane Baker, Director of Planning & Research for NBEC stated, “CEAI’s CAM implementation will permit Ohio schools to measure student progress more frequently through locally developed standards-based tests, and focus learning activities on the specific needs of individual students. CEAI’s integration of CAM into the D3A2 Data Warehouse will make longitudinal analysis more accurate, and will help to identify specific instructional needs of each student.”

CEAI partnered the James Group, Smart Solutions, Sakai Foundation and the Oracle Corporation to ensure that CAM is seamlessly integrated with Northern Ohio Department of Education’s D3A2 program.

“CEAI is pleased to have been selected by NBEC to deliver the D3A2 CAM project.” said Anjli Jain, Executive Director, CampusEAI Consortium. "This contract award solidifies our position as the Sakai and Oracle Fusion Middleware experts".
