Follow on Google News | Energy Help for UK’s PoorestUK ministers are aiming to speed up plans for home insulation programmes which target Britain’s poorest households, in a bid to protect the inhabitants against the impact of rising gas and electricity prices.
By: National Double Glazing The three-year programme is designed to promote reductions in carbon emissions by installing energy efficiency measures in households such as cavity wall and loft insulation. It will aim to raise more than £2 billion from the UK’s energy companies, though front-loading will mean the larger spend is during this year and next. Stephanie Rogers from National Double Glazing commented: “This is really great news for poorer people in the UK, who are surely set to feel the brunt of rising energy bills most sorely. Double glazing and wall cavity insulation can save nearly half of heating expenses.” Ministers may also consider switching the £2 billion winter fuel poverty payment so that it is not targeted solely at pensioners but also at the poor, in order to further defend against the rising energy prices.
