All courses will be taught according to the Callerlab syllabus (see www.callerlab.org for details and go to Dance Programs) and enable students, once they have completed their training, to take part in dances at Mainstream level ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD. Square dancing is always called in English.
Modern square dancing is suitable for adults of all ages and involves no running, skipping or jumping. It is taught to a set syllabus and dancers take part in a variety of events ranging from local club nights to national and international conventions, via regional "friendship"
Square dancing is an excellent form of exercise, promoting both physical health and psychological well-being, improving co-ordination and social skills as well as teaching co-operation. For a national list of clubs in Great Britain, see www.squaredancing.co.uk. All clubs operating at Mainstream level will be able to provide information about which clubs are teaching beginners this year.
For background information www.dosado.com and www.iagsdc.org are recommended. Square dancing and square dance calling are also promoted internationally by Grand Square Incorporated, a Chartered US organisation:
