(Buffalo, NY) Sharing and Caring Family Group Daycare is being called one of the “finest home daycares in the Buffalo, New York Area” by local residents, and is receiving high praise for its state-of-the-
The Basic Building Blocks Program was launched by Shavette Young, Director of Sharing and Caring Daycare, to combat the negative residual affects of lack of preparation for elementary education among young children. After Shavette Young accepted a position in the Buffalo Public School System, she saw how many children had difficulty adjusting to the new academic setting; and consequently these children performed poorly in school. Shavette Young realized that the failure to excel could be linked to their lack of preparation before transitioning into public school.
“I was shocked to find how many children didn’t possess the most basic skills like recognizing their letters, colors, numbers, or even their own names,” recalls Shavette Young. “It’s not just one or two kids either. A lot of them don’t know the basics.”
With two young children of her own, performing well due to early preparation, Shavette Young decided she would like to assist other families through providing early childcare that focuses heavily on foundational learning and cognitive development.
“I’m excited about being a part of this great new program,” says Chantel Duncan, a near 20-year childcare veteran and assistant at Sharing and Caring Daycare. “I’ve been in childcare a long time and I know there is a great need for a program like this one,” said Duncan, who also holds a Degree in Early Childhood Education.
