Upgrade demand provided motive to switch supplier.
Astons has operated its own fuelling facilities for over four decades. As the business has expanded, bulk storage capacity has been increased progressively by putting in additional tanks.
Housed under cover, within workshop storage area, the installation now comprises three 10K litres and one 12K litres tanks, all interlinked and feeding two fuelling points, located at each end of the building. Drivers are able to access fuel on a self serve basis and the amount drawn recorded automatically by a computer linked monitoring system.
Support terminated
Although the system had provided reliable service over many years, Astons were informed by its supplier that the monitoring equipment was obsolete and that technical support would terminate in October 2007. Welcome news which was accompanied by proposals for upgrading to a replacement system.
“Depot fuelling is central to our operations,”
“We were surprised by this company’s approach as it showed a complete lack of empathy under present circumstances. They appeared to be more interested in pushing us towards a major new investment, rather than helping us to deal with more pressing issues of managing increasing fuel costs.”
“So we decided to see what else was on the market. We found Merridale from an Internet search and we were pleasantly surprised to see that that we could obtain the equivalent functionality at a far more competitive price.”
“The new Merridale Auditor units were installed in October last year, and these together with a maintenance and support contract for our entire fuelling installation, have ensured a seamless switchover from the obsolete equipment.”
Used in conjunction with bulk diesel storage, the Merridale Auditor monitoring units provide security through the use of smart keys that allow authorised access to the fuel.
Details of the fuelling transactions are recorded and then downloaded to the administration computer for analysis and the production of management reports.
Primarily the information is used for stock control.
By using smart keys, all fuelling transactions are linked to specific vehicles enabling more qualitative reports to be created for analysing trends and tracking mpg performance.
