Six sixteen years old teenagers from St-Eustache and Deux-Montagnes (Province of Quebec, Canada) are organizing a marathon of 48 hours non-stop during which they will play each game from the Guitar Hero series and Rockband in order to raise money for Child’s Play, a foundation that distributes toys and games to hospitalized and sick children.
This marathon will occur from August 15 to August 17 2008 and will be broadcasted live on the internet via Ustream.tv starting 3 pm. The funds will be collected directly by the foundation through http://www.guitarheromarathon.com, using ChipIn. The demand has been made to make sure that all the money will go to the Montreal Children’s Hospital. A forum is already available and on the day of the event, it will be possible to discuss with the players or to challenge them for an additional amount of donation using a chat room. The actual objective is CAN$15 000.
Guitar Hero and Rockband are musical simulation games. The player plays with a guitar shaped controller or a drum shaped controller and must press the correct button which will appear on the screen in order to play a designated song. He may also sing with a microphone.
This event is not the only one of its sort. The idea comes from another marathon of the same kind during which 3 players played 7 games from the Super Mario Bros. series during an entire weekend. (Source: http://www.mariomarathon.com )
